Harper's Mansion

Harper's Mansion is a well-preserved, heritage-listed house and house museum located in Berrima, New South Wales, Australia.

Built in 1835-36, the property is recognized for its remarkable Georgian design and unique history. Originally owned by James Harper and his wife Mary, the house was later purchased by the Catholic Church and served as a presbytery for 120 years. In 1978, the National Trust of Australia acquired the property and undertook a seven-year restoration project. Harper's Mansion was opened to the public in 1985.

The history of Harper's Mansion is closely tied to the development of Berrima. James Harper purchased the land in 1832 and built the house, which featured a single-story veranda and a detached brick kitchen. After Harper's death, the house changed hands several times and was leased by the Catholic Church, who used it as a presbytery for priests. Over the years, the house fell into disrepair until it was sold to new owners in 1970. The Mittagong Shire Council applied for a grant to restore the house, and in 1978, the National Trust acquired the property. From 1985 to 1999, the house was a public museum, and in 2007, it was reopened to the public with further work done on the garden.

Harper's Mansion is a two-story Georgian-style brick house set in two acres of grounds. The architectural features, such as the six-paneled doors and chimneys with roundels, showcase the craftsmanship of the era. The house originally had a single-story veranda, but it no longer exists newline.
