Description

Heathcote National Park is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and history buffs.

Located in the southern region of Sydney, this 2,679-hectare national park offers a beautiful natural landscape with unique flora and fauna, deep valleys, and sandstone formations.

The park features extensive woodland, including dry schlerophyll forest on the ridges and low heath in wetter areas. It is home to watercourses like Heathcote Creek, Kingfisher Creek, and Myuna Creek, which have carved deep valleys throughout the park. The sandy, infertile soil makes it an ideal place to explore the native Australian landscape.

The main walking track in the park is the Bullawarring Track, which stretches from Waterfall to Heathcote along the Heathcote Creek valley. It utilizes a maintenance road that leads from Woronora Dam to Heathcote Road.

Heathcote National Park has a rich history. It was once inhabited by the Dharawal people before European settlement. Visitors can see marks left by the Dharawal people, such as shield trees along the Bullawarring Track and charcoal drawings along Myuna Creek. Ruins from the Great Depression, left behind by European settlers, can also be found in places like Myuna Creek. Early tracks and camp sites were created by groups like The Sydney Bushwalkers and the Mountain Trails Club of New South Wales in the 1930s.

The park offers a range of features for visitors interested in both history and the natural landscape. There are various walking tracks to explore, with the Bullawarring Track being a highlight, providing views of the deep valleys and passing through historic sites. Campgrounds are available at Kingfisher Pool and nearby
