Situated just a few kilometres away from Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast is the HMAS Brisbane Dive Site Mooloolaba, a retired Royal Australian Navy destroyer, now transformed into one of the top dive sites in Australia.
The ship was scuttled in July 2005, and now rests 27 meters below sea level, grounded on her keel. The 133-meter wreck offers an exciting and adventurous experience to divers and visitors.
The HMAS Brisbane Dive Site Mooloolaba is an ideal destination for scuba divers who want to explore the massive wreck, brimming with a diverse variety of aquatic life. The main decks of the ship sit at a depth of 15 meters, providing ample opportunity for open water divers to investigate the upper structure of the vessel and its thriving marine environment. The funnel of the ship is located only three meters below the surface, which can be great news for snorkelers. Suitably certified divers can venture deeper to explore the inner compartments, including the kitchen, engine room and boiler room, provided due caution and experience.
