Description
The Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail is a popular route for cyclists and pedestrians in Melbourne, Australia.
It offers stunning views of the coast line and is part of the larger Bayside Trail. The trail starts from the western side of the Westgate Bridge and extends to the Skeleton Creek Trail in Sanctuary Lakes.
Along the path, there are various connections to other trails. Towards the Footscray end, the trail connects with the Maribyrnong River Trail and the Footscray Road off-road path, which leads to the Docklands and the Capital City Trail. Between Footscray and Spotswood, there is a 3-meter-wide off-road path that takes you through Moreland Street, Whitehall Street, Somerville Road, and Hyde Street. Under the West Gate Bridge, the trail continues along the Yarra River to Williamstown and further to Altona.
On weekends, there is a punt available near the Scienceworks Museum to transport cyclists across the Yarra River. The Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail is well-connected with other trails, including the Maribyrnong River Trail, the Capital City Trail, the lower Kororoit Creek Trail, and the Laverton Creek Trail. The trail terminates at the Skeleton Creek Trail in Altona Meadows. The north end of the trail is located near the punt, and the south end is located at the Skeleton Creek Trail.
