Inside my neighbourhood
Hocking is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s Established Central Place Management Area.
A growing and developing suburb with a population now of over 5,900 people.
Hocking is home to many new houses, with many still under development, with remnant market gardens and community parks, including Hinkley Park. In 2022, the City of Wanneroo hosted a successful twilight market at this park.
The primary new housing estate is Belvedere Hills, developed by the Satterley Property Group.
Origin of name and history
Hocking was named in honour of Herbert Hocking, a wheat and livestock farmer in Wanneroo and the first Chairman of the Wanneroo Road Board. The name was approved on 1 December 1994.
Mr Hocking served on the Board from 1903 to 1931, as Chairman from 1903-1911, and then again from 1917-1925. He owned extensive land grants between Gnangara Road and the Wanneroo townsite, and was treasurer of the Wanneroo Agricultural Society in 1909.
Hocking Primary School was established in 2008 and caters for over 650 students.
