Description
The Honeysuckle Creek Walking Track is a delightful walking trail located in Violet Town that was created through a community capacity building initiative.
The community identified an area with developmental potential, and after 18 months and the hard work of over 50 community working bees, resulted in an easy-to-navigate 3-kilometre circuit that takes around 40 minutes to complete.
The walking trail is an easy 3-kilometre circuit that is suitable for wheelchairs and prams, and offers scenic views of the surrounding bushland. Along the track, visitors can immerse themselves in nature and keep an eye out for the local wildlife. Frequented by possums, bats, water rat, squirrel gliders, and frogs, the trail lends itself to wildlife-spotting opportunities.
The track is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers, who passionately care for the trail's native vegetation, ensuring its preservation for future generations to enjoy. Ongoing maintenance and planting is completed by the volunteer group.
The walking trail is accessible year-round, but the best time to visit is during the mild temperatures of autumn and spring.
The trail is located in Violet Town, approximately 170 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. Visitors can drive along the Hume Freeway, with the trailhead situated on Mather Road, just off the Violet Town-Cosgrove Road.
