Description
A horizontal, reversible waterfall is one of the most unusual attractions in the Kimberley.
The falls are formed by the when powerful tides rush through two narrow gorges in Talbot Bay in the Buccaneer Archipelago, north of Derby, and actually reverse as the tide turns.
Significant falls
The Dambimangari traditional owners call the Horizontal Falls Garaangaddim and request that visitors do not negotiate the falls by boat when the tide is rushing, as the tide rushing is the Woongudd (creator snake) itself.
River-carved gorge
The best way to see this phenomenon is to take a scenic flight from Derby or Broome, timed to see it at its best.
