Description

The Hutt River is a river located in the Mid West region of Western Australia.

It covers an area of approximately 75 square kilometers and flows westward for about 60km until it meets the Indian Ocean at Broken Anchor Bay. The river's main tributary is Kennedy Creek, with Yarder Gully and Swamp Gully also contributing to its fresh water supply.

The former Hutt River Principality was a popular tourist attraction. Visitors could buy passports, currency, and stamps from the Administration Building, as well as visit the Post Office to send letters or buy Hutt River stamps. The Memorabilia Department & Historical Society displays in the Arcade showcased the unique building, "Princess Shirley's Educational Shrine," which contained information on the mathematical discoveries of the PHR Royal College of Advanced Research. The Royal Art Collection, consisting of 300 pieces scattered throughout the buildings, was also a must-see. The property also had documents, news clippings, and photos related to the principality's history, including the declaration of war against Australia in 1977.

The property is currently closed to travelers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Department for updates on when it will reopen.

To get to Hutt River, visitors can take the North West Coastal Highway from Perth, which is approximately 595km south of the property. It is accessible by car.

Note: As of April 2022, the former micronation of Hutt River has been dissolved and sold to pay off a tax debt newline.
