Roadhouse, gallery and campground. Ilkurlka is a peaceful retreat proudly owned and operated by the Spinifex People, acting as an important stopover for East West travellers.
Built in 2003, Ilkurlka Roadhouse`s main purpose is to serve visitors travelling along the Anne Beadell Highway. Ilkurlka is the only roadhouse on the Anne Beadell Highway between Coober Pedy and Laverton.
Structures at Ilkurlka include the roadhouse, arts studio, logistics shed and amenity structures. These are all architecturally designed ergonomically and functionally. Additionally, Ilkurlka is entirely solar powered.
Accommodation at Ilkurlka ranges from a campground with a shower, toilet and BBQ area to a self-contained studio.
The art gallery contains paintings by artists from the Spinifex Arts Project. Some of these artists exhibit internationally.
Diesel is readily available although petrol (opal) must be ordered in advance. Basic groceries are also available.
Optus provides mobile coverage.
Getting There
Ilkurlka Roadhouse is situated in the Great Victoria Desert along the Anne Beadell Highway about 550km east of Laverton and 770 kilometres west of Coober Pedy.
