Description
Indian Head is a prominent coastal headland on the eastern side of Fraser Island, also known as K'gari and Gari.
It is a significant landmark and popular tourist spot, constituting the most easterly point on the island. The headland is formed by trachyte, a result of volcanic activity 30 million years ago.
Captain Cook named the headland Indian Head in 1770 after observing native people gathered on it. In the Badtjala language, it is called Tukkee, meaning stone or stone knife.
Climbing Indian Head is a favored activity for tourists, offering panoramic views of the surrounding ocean and opportunities to spot marine life such as mantarays, sharks, and whales. Camping is not permitted around the headland.
