Description
Iron Cove Foreshore is home to the historic Iron Cove Bridge, which carries Victoria Road (A40) across Iron Cove, linking the Sydney suburbs of Drummoyne to Rozelle in New South Wales, Australia.
The bridge has a rich history dating back to 1882 when the original wrought iron lattice girder bridge was built after four years of construction.
The original bridge became an important transport link between the sparsely populated areas of Drummoyne and Rozelle, providing a new western route to Sydney via Balmain. The bridge's nine spans were reused due to their good resistance to corrosion, with three of them still in use in country roads in the Forbes area. Only the sandstone abutments of the original bridge remain, listed on the local government heritage list.

Designed by Laurie Challis from the NSW Department of Main Roads, the bridge is an impressive steel truss bridge with a total length of 461.26 metres. It consists of four plate girder approach spans and seven steel Pratt truss spans. The bridge has four lanes of traffic within the truss spans, with an overall width of 13.7 metres. The roadway is made of a reinforced concrete deck slab with an inset for tram tracks in the center portion. The bridge's piers and abutments reflect the Inter-War Art Deco style.
Originally built to carry four lanes of traffic, a fifth lane was later added to the southwest side of the bridge. Prior to the bridge duplication in 2011, the
