Jubilee 150 Walk

Tourist attractions

Adelaide, SA 5000

Description

The Jubilee 150 Walkway in Adelaide was opened in 1986 to celebrate South Australia's 150th anniversary.

It features a series of bronze plaques along North Terrace, displaying the names and achievements of 170 individuals who have contributed significantly to the province's history. Additional plaques have been added by the Adelaide City Council since its creation.

The walkway begins at the South African War Memorial and stretches along the north side of North Terrace, passing by prominent landmarks such as Government House, the National War Memorial, the State Library, the Museum, the Art Gallery, and the University of Adelaide. This section of North Terrace also includes statues, busts, memorials, seating benches, drinking fountains, and water features.

In 2011, the Adelaide City Council reorganized the area in front of Government House, but the plaques and major statues were not relocated. For those interested in learning more about the individuals and events commemorated on the plaques, there are several recommended sources available. These include books such as "S.A.'s greats: the men and women of the North Terrace plaques" edited by John Healey, "Notable lives: profiles of 21 South Australians" by Stewart Cockburn, and "The patriarchs" by Stewart Cockburn.
