Description
Kalamunda National Park, located 23 kilometres east of Perth, Western Australia, is an important conservation site.
It is situated near the town of Kalamunda and offers a great experience for nature enthusiasts and hikers.
The park is a typical example of Darling Scarp woodland and is home to various indigenous species, including marri, jarrah, and wandoo trees. It also boasts a diverse range of wildflowers. Piesse Brook, which runs through the park, is a vital catchment area for both the Helena and Swan Rivers. Visitors can enter the park for free and enjoy the facilities and amenities provided. There are also several walking trails, including the northern end of the Bibbulmun Track.
Kalamunda National Park is well-known for its importance as a non-breeding season roost site and foraging base for long-billed black cockatoos. BirdLife International has recognized the Mundaring-Kalamunda Important Bird Area, which includes the park, for its significance in providing a habitat for these unique birds. This recognition has emphasized the need for preserving the park and its inhabitants, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers.
