Description

The Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail spans 66 kilometers and takes about five days to complete.

Located in Kangaroo Island, South Australia, this trail is known for its unique flora and fauna and ends at the rugged and spectacular coastline of the Southern Ocean.

On the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail, hikers can witness the region's most unique flora and fauna, including the rare Kangaroo Island Dunnart and Glossy Black Cockatoo. The trail takes hikers through forests of sugar gum, banksias, and mallee eucalyptus, as well as coastal shelves, pristine beaches, and massive cliffs overlooking the ocean. The best time to experience the full bloom of wildflowers and avoid harsh weather is from September to November.

To reach the trailhead at Flinders Chase National Park's Ravine des Casoars Campground, the most convenient way is to take a 30-minute flight from Adelaide Airport to Kingscote Airport. Alternatively, Kangaroo Island can be reached by ferry from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw. Once on the island, the Flinders Chase National Park can be accessed by car or public transport.

The Kangaroo Island Wilderness Trail offers hikers and nature enthusiasts a chance to experience one of Australia's most untouched and unique landscapes. With breathtaking views, a variety of trails, and excellent wildlife opportunities, it is a must-visit destination.
