Description
Karawatha Forest Park is located on the southern edge of Brisbane City in the suburb of Karawatha.
Covering approximately 900 hectares of bushland and coastal lowlands, Karawatha Forest is the largest area of bushland reserve in Brisbane. The forest is on the lands of the Yuggera people, and despite the history of dispossession, they frequently still use and love Karawatha Forest today. There are numerous trails in the area across varied terrain that serves as a wildlife refuge and ecological habitat corridor connecting to nearby remnant bushlands. The forest has a great network of well-maintained trails that are perfect for hiking, running, and walking.
There are many trails to explore at Karawatha Forest, all with varying terrain and levels. The Karawatha Forest Loop is generally considered an easy trail and is a great option for the whole family. It is a 12.6 km loop that takes an average of 2 h 54 min to complete, with minor inclines and descents, as well as many side tracks to explore. Another great option is Rocks Circuit (3.4 km), which showcases the plant life of one of the largest remnant bushland areas left in Brisbane and last open eucalypt bushlands in South East Queensland. For a shorter walk, the Karawatha Short Loop (3.9 km) is a great choice, it is easy and partially surfaced, great for circuit walking. Brushtrail, Banksia and Dianella Circuit (6.9 km) is another great option with majestic scenery newline.
