District veteran Michael Kelly’s family label, making estate-grown traditional Margaret River wines, plus Vermentino, Nebbiolo, Extra Virgin Olive Oil from a prime vineyard on Caves Road in Yallingup.
Gaining his degree in wine science from Charles Sturt University before working at Domaine Louis Chapuis in Burgundy, followed by winemaking terms at Leeuwin Estate, Sandalford Estate and Fermoy, Michael Kelly began his family-operated label in Yallingup in 1999. The winery has received consecutive 5 star ratings from James Halliday since 2009, and was named one of his “Top Ten Best New Wineries of 2013”.
The Wines
Varieties include an award-winning Shiraz grown in Donnybrook in the Geographe Wine Region, Margaret River’s flagship varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and estate-grown Vermentino and Nebbiolo. The Vermentino he imported directly from Italy and waited 10 years for three cuttings to become enough productive vines to make the first vintage of the wine.
