Description

Killalea Regional Park Shell Cove is a spectacular coastal reserve located less than 30 minutes south of Wollongong.

This park is an ideal spot for a day trip or a weekend's stay with family and friends. Killalea's natural beauty offers visitors an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

There's plenty to see and do at Killalea Regional Park, despite its relatively small size. Surfing is popular at the two famous surf breaks - The Farm and Minnamurra Beach. Fishing is another popular activity, with opportunities along the beaches or the Minnamurra River. The Killalea campground is an excellent spot for a relaxing weekend's stay with the family, offering modern amenities and a great base for exploring the South Coast. For groups of students or outdoor adventurers, Killalea bunkhouse provides affordable accommodation. Wildlife watching is also a highlight, especially in spring when visitors can enjoy expansive ocean views and spot a wide range of birds, including threatened species.

Killalea is home to remnant rainforest, including massive Morton Bay figs. Rare coastal plants like the endangered white flowered wax plant and Illawarra zieria can be found here. The park is also known for its petite white flowers of the Illawarra Zieria, which blossoms from late winter to summer.

Killalea Regional Park is open all year round, but spring is a particularly good time to visit due to the great weather and abundance of wildlife. To get there, visitors can take the Shellharbour exit off the Princes Highway and follow the signs to the park. Ample parking is available at the park.
