Nestled in the southern corner of the bay where Killiecrankie Road terminates, Killiecrankie Picnic Area is a perfect spot for a picnic and beach time.
The area is suitable for families, small groups, and individuals looking for a fun-filled time at the beach. It is free for day use only and can accommodate about 50 vehicles. Amenities include picnic tables, a free gas BBQ, freshwater, public toilets, and a shower.
Killiecrankie Beach is a low gradient, white sand beach that curves toward the east for approximately 800m. It is perfect for beach lovers looking forward to soaking in the sun and warm waters while enjoying peaceful views of the bay. The beach faces north across the bay and commences among low granite rock tucked away behind Nobby Rock. The western end of the beach is ideal for fishing, with several fishing boats usually moored off the beach and a low gradient suitable for launching small boats.
Swimming, snorkeling, and diving are popular water activities at Killiecrankie Beach. The waves are very low at the western corner and increase to about 1m at the creek mouth. The beach maintains a low gradient reflective to low tide terrace beach, with rock reefs and seagrass lying 100m offshore.
Killiecrankie Beach Picnic area is open throughout the year. During the summer months, between December and February, the beach is busier, while during winter, between June and August, there are fewer visitors.
