Lady Bowen Dive Site

Lady Bowen Dive Site is a popular dive location off the coast of Mission Beach.

It offers visitors the chance to explore the remnants of a 66 metre-long schooner that sank almost 48 kilometres from where it hit the reef. The wreck, known as Lady Bowen, is over 100 years old and is now submerged under 34 metres of water. Divers are drawn to this site for its historical significance and diverse marine life.

Diving at Lady Bowen Dive Site is an unforgettable experience. Divers can witness amazing coral formations and encounter a variety of colorful and friendly marine species. Gropers, sea snakes, giant turtles, lionfish, and barracuda are just a few examples of the marine life that inhabit the wreck. The depth of the site makes it suitable for intermediate to advanced divers.

Lady Bowen Dive Site is accessible year-round, but the best time to visit is during the dry season from April to November. During this period, the water is clearer and visibility is better. The water temperature is warm, averaging 28°C in summer and 24°C in winter.

To reach Lady Bowen Dive Site, visitors can travel to Mission Beach, which is approximately 140 kilometres south of Cairns and 250 kilometres north of Townsville. From Cairns, a scenic drive along the coast takes around two hours. Alternatively, visitors can fly to Cairns or Townsville airport and then take a bus or hire a car to reach Mission Beach. It's important to note that Lady Bowen Dive Site is only accessible by boat, and there are several dive companies in the area that offer boat charters to the site.
