A popular stop with travellers on the Muir Highway, visitors can follow a boardwalk through the internationally significant wetlands to an elevated bird hide with expansive views over Lake Muir.
Lake Muir is part of the Muir-Byenup wetland system which is recognised as a Wetland of International Importance. The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, known as the Ramsar Convention, was signed in the Iranian town of Ramsar, in 1971. It is an intergovernmental treaty and the Convention’s mission is “the conservation and wise use of all wetlands through local and national actions and international cooperation, as a contribution towards achieving sustainable development throughout the world”.
