Lal Lal Bungal Historic Reserve

The Lal Lal Bungal Historic Reserve in Lal Lal, VIC 3352 is a 75-acre reserve within the State Forest.

It showcases the region's history, including the only attempt at mining and smelting iron ore in Victoria during the late nineteenth century. The highlight of the reserve is the Lal Lal Blast Furnace, an impressive archaeological site.

Visitors to the historic area can explore the iron mine and blast furnace, with interpretive signage and a wooden viewing platform provided for the best viewing experience. The site also offers amenities such as a picnic area, toilets, BBQs, fire pits, and camping facilities. Walking along the tracks allows visitors to see the remnants of the iron mine and blast furnace.

The Lal Lal Bungal Historic Reserve is open 24/7 and can be visited year-round. To reach the reserve, it is approximately an hour's drive from Melbourne CBD via the Western Freeway / M8 towards Ballarat. Take the Lal Lal exit and follow the signs to the reserve. Ample parking is available on-site.
