Lerderderg State Park

Lerderderg State Park is a vast 14,250-hectare park located approximately an hour's drive from Melbourne, Australia, between Bacchus Marsh and Blackwood.

This stunning park was established from what was once Pyrete State Forest and is home to a rich Aboriginal cultural landscape, located in the traditional country of the Wurundjeri People.

The park offers several adventure options for those wishing to explore the area via foot. Several maintained tracks are available for those seeking walking trails through the park, and camping is allowed. There are six designated walks maintained by Parks Victoria. Of the six, three are short walks with a distance of 3.5 km or less. The other walks include Blackwood-O' Brien's Crossing and return (22 km), O'Briens Crossing-Cowan Track loop (14 km), and the overnight walk from O'Briens Crossing to Mackenzie's Flat (20 km).

One of the park's main attractions is the famed Lerderderg Gorge, which was created by the Lerderderg River, which carved through sandstone and slate over years. The gorge is about 300 meters deep and almost bisects the park, making it a stunning sight to behold.

If you're seeking a longer adventure, check out the Great Dividing Trail: Lerderderg Track. It passes through the park, starting from Blackwood in the northwest and exiting south towards Bacchus Marsh. Do note that bicycles are not allowed on one section of the track due to a conservation area.
