Description

Liffey Falls is a picturesque series of waterfalls located in the Midlands region of Tasmania, Australia.

The falls consist of four cascades named Alexandra Falls, Hopetoun Falls, The Leap or Spout Falls, and Victoria Falls. They are easily accessible from Deloraine via the Lake Highway and are situated in Meander Valley.

Visitors can access Liffey Falls from both upstream and downstream via walking tracks that offer a unique opportunity to experience the stunning Tasmanian landscape. The area was once a meeting place for Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples, with traces of their presence evident in the original name of the site, Tellerpangger. In 1827, fifty to sixty members of the Pallittorre clan lost their lives during the Black War, a conflict between Aboriginal people and European colonists. The massacre was carried out as reprisal for the killing of a stockman by Aboriginal people. The soldiers fired at the Pallittorre clan while they were gathered around their fires.

Despite its dark history, Liffey Falls remains a favored spot for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. It offers visitors the chance to appreciate the scenic beauty of Tasmania while acknowledging the area's historical significance.
