Liffey River Reserve - Bush Heritage Australia (BHA)

Located in Tasmania, the Liffey River Reserve - Bush Heritage Australia (BHA) Liffey is a pristine conservation reserve covering 105 hectares.

Initially gifted by Bob Brown to Bush Heritage Australia in 1991, it serves as a sanctuary for native Australian flora and fauna.

The reserve is home to a variety of fauna, including the spotted-tail quoll and white goshawk, among other native Australian species. It also protects different types of forests, such as myrtle beech rainforest and wet and dry eucalypt forest. The vegetation ranges from sassafras rainforest to forests of tall white gums.

Nature lovers can explore the reserve on the 3.5km grade 2 walking track, starting at the Lower Liffey Campground. The trail offers views of the surrounding landscape, diverse vegetation, and the winding Liffey River. The walk takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete.

The reserve is open year-round, but it's advisable to check current conditions due to the unpredictable Tasmanian weather. To get to the reserve by car, take the B51 westward from Launceston and continue onto the C515 between Liffey and Carrick. The reserve entrance is located about 150m south of the Liffey River bridge. Buses are also available from Launceston, with varying schedules depending on the time of year.
