Description
Limestone Creek Conservation Park is a protected area in Rockhampton, covering 400 hectares and featuring various habitats such as eucalyptus woodlands, rainforest patches, and open grasslands.
Visitors can engage in outdoor activities like birdwatching, picnicking, hiking along the walking trails, and camping. The park is also known for fishing in Limestone Creek, where the elusive Australian bass can be caught. Wildlife observation is another popular activity, with opportunities to spot koalas, wallabies, and kangaroos.
Summer, from December to February, is the wet season with hot and humid weather, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms.
To reach Limestone Creek Conservation Park, travel 16km northwest of Rockhampton. Take the Bruce Highway north from the city, turn right onto Limestone Creek Road, and continue straight into the park.
The park is home to a diverse range of wildlife, with at least 705 species across kingdoms and classes. Visitors can observe koalas, wallabies, and a variety of bird species. Fishing in the creek provides opportunities to encounter native and introduced fish species, including the Australian bass.
