Description
Loch Luna Game Reserve and Moorook Game Reserve are protected areas located in South Australia, on the north side of the River Murray, between Kingston-on-Murray and Cobdogla. The Loch Luna Game Reserve was proclaimed on November 7, 1985 to protect the floodplain area and provides significant wildlife habitats. It is situated approximately 180 kilometers (110 miles) north-east of Adelaide city center.
The reserve's boundaries exclude the Sugarloaf Hill parcel of land, which has been granted for mining activity.
Adjacent to the Loch Luna Game Reserve's southern boundary, Moorook Game Reserve is another protected area known to provide excellent wildlife habitats. Both reserves are well-known for offering a unique experience of wildlife and outdoor recreation. Activities such as river-based recreation and camping are popular among visitors.
As a Category VI protected area, Loch Luna Game Reserve is vital to the conservation of natural resources and wildlife. It was listed on the Register of the National Estate in 1989 before being discontinued.
