Description

Welcome to London Bridge! Located near Queanbeyan, in New South Wales, near Canberra, Australia, London Bridge is a unique limestone karst that has been hollowed out by Burra Creek, a tributary of the Queanbeyan River of the Molonglo River.

This incredible natural formation has been created due to meander cutoff and today it consists of a spectacular limestone arch. It is worth noting that this arch was listed on the now-defunct Register of the National Estate, highlighting its significant importance.

London Bridge was first discovered by the European explorers in 1822, namely Captain Mark Currie, Brigadier Major John Ovens, Joseph Wild, and two nameless Aboriginal guides who accompanied them on their trip. Due to its unique and wonderful formation, this incredible karst arch became a natural beauty that was recognized by the Australian Government, which took proactive steps to protect and preserve it.

The Australian Government had planned to construct the London Bridge Dam, which threatened the vulnerable arch with flooding. Thankfully, the limited catchment area resulted in the construction of Googong Dam instead, which helped preserve the natural beauty of London Bridge. Today, London Bridge is located within the Burra Creek Nature Reserve, which aims to protect and maintain the natural resources within its boundaries for future generations to appreciate.

So, if you're looking for a magnificent natural formation to explore, visit London Bridge today!
