Description
Seventeen trips with swags and tent have allowed me to explore the Top End of Australia, encountering fires and extreme weather, recording trips in journal sketches and painting watercolours on site.
The profound influence of living and working in the WA desert developed my interest in the ancient landforms and inland flora that feature in my work. From being involved with isolated sheep stations in the rangelands, employment as a landscaper on a gold mine extended my contacts and I was able to develop my arts practice during that time.
I continually return to the red dirt country for solitude and the expanse of the inland skies.
Travelling in remote areas of Australia, observations and drawings fill journals which are referred to in the studio to develop mixed media works.
In the past three years I have been commissioned to travel to the Murchison, Gascoyne and Goldfields to paint as preparation for larger works in my shed at home.
The move to the South West from the Goldfields sees me being part of Margaret River Region Open Studios, the opportunity to liaise with other artists.
My latest work concentrates on the constant search for water when travelling in remote areas. Blue lines on the maps usually mean dry creek beds, and the blue lakes are either dry or salty.
