Description

Established in the 1850s, Malmsbury Botanic Gardens is one of Victoria's earliest regional botanic gardens.

Located in Ellesmere Place, Malmsbury, Victoria, Australia, the gardens cover approximately 6.3 hectares and feature a mix of native and exotic vegetation. The central focal point of the gardens is the ornamental lake with a developed island at its center. Visitors can enjoy the mature trees, native flora and fauna, meandering pathways, and informative signs throughout the gardens.

The gardens offer various activities for visitors. Families can have a barbecue lunch while children play in the fenced playground area. Strolling around the lake among the beautiful plants and reading the informative signs is also a popular option. The gardens boast outstanding individual specimen trees, including the Californian Redwood, Sugar Gum, Bunya Bunya, and Strawberry Tree. The presence of ducks, geese, and mature trees surrounding the lake creates a tranquil atmosphere.

The gardens are open year-round, but autumn, when the leaves change color, is a particularly exceptional time to visit. Additionally, the gardens are conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from local pubs, cafes, and the railway line.

To reach the Malmsbury Botanic Gardens, visitors can take the Calder Highway from Melbourne to Bendigo. The gardens are situated along the western side of Ellesmere Place in Malmsbury, Victoria, Australia.

Visitors to the gardens can also see the Malmsbury Viaduct, a significant 19th-century engineering structure constructed in 1859.

The Malmsbury Botanic Gardens have been classified and included on the National Trust Register since 1998. Visitors are reminded to keep their dogs on a leash at all times unless
