Description
Martindale Hall along with 19 hectares (47 acres) of grounds were later handed to the South Australian Government by the university in 1986.
Built in 1879 – 1880 for Edmund Bowman Jr. at a cost of £30,000 it has some 32 rooms and boasts a large cellar of some 7 rooms. Edmund’s grandparents, John & Mary Bowman, were sheep farmers in the Lake Districts in England who migrated to Tasmania in 1829 with their children and a flock of the best sheep.
