Description
Max Harris Reserve & Memorial Rose Garden in George Town, Tasmania is a solemn tribute to the courageous servicemen and women who served their country, and a reminder of the sacrifices they made in times of war.
The garden was opened in 1998 and stands as a symbol of honour and remembrance for those who have served and sacrificed their lives.
The garden has several features that make it a beautiful and memorable place to visit. Visitors can observe the ANZAC cenotaph situated prominently in the garden, which is a clear cylinder sculpture containing a rifle and a helmet. The Avenue of Honour, a tree-lined path consisting of thirty-two trees, is another significant feature of the garden. Each tree is dedicated to the servicemen who served in World War One, and displays the name and service details at the base of each tree. "Saluting their service" is yet another feature worth seeing in the reserve. Two Bofors anti-aircraft auto-cannon are on display in honour of Clarence Andrews (RAN - H2031) and Athol Geale (AIF - VX64649). This tribute to these two servicemen is a poignant reminder of the challenges that these heroes faced during their service.
The Max Harris Reserve & Memorial Rose Garden is a perfect place to honour the memories of those who have served their country. The garden is a beautiful location for visitors to pause, reflect and pay respect to the brave servicemen and women who made sacrifices for the country.
The garden can be visited at any time throughout the year. The location of the garden is along the George Town Road, about 5km east of the township. Visitors driving can take a scenic drive to the garden, which takes approximately 7 minutes from George Town.
