Description
Millstream Chichester National Park is a historic and cultural oasis located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
It encompasses the former Millstream Station, which sits on the Millstream Creek and merges with the Fortescue River, as well as the Chichester Range. This national park offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature, learn about the rich history of the region, and experience the Australian outback.
The land that now forms Millstream Chichester National Park has long been the traditional homeland of the Yinjibarndi people. In 1861, explorer Francis Thomas Gregory named the Millstream Creek and noted its favorable grazing prospects. Pastoralists arrived soon after, with the first pastoral lease taken in 1865. Over the years, the property changed hands and expanded in size. In 1970, the Chichester Range National Park was established and later incorporated the Millstream region in 1982. Today, the Yinjibarndi people work as rangers and contractors in the park, and the Millstream Homestead Visitor Centre showcases the history of the area.
The climate in the Pilbara region is characterized by an arid tropic zone. Summers can be extremely hot, with temperatures exceeding 40 °C (104 °F), and cyclones and thunderstorms can cause flooding. The cool season experiences little rainfall, with daytime temperatures around 26 °C (79 °F) and cool nights. Visitors should come prepared with appropriate clothing for varying weather conditions.
Camping is a popular activity in Millstream Chichester National Park, and there are two designated camping areas: Miliyanha and Stargazers campgrounds. Miliyanha offers amenities such as a camp
