Minerva Hills National Park

Located within the Brigalow Belt bioregion, the Minerva Hills National Park is a sprawling national park that covers a rugged landscape of volcanic peaks, sheltered gorges, sheer cliffs, open woodlands, and dry rainforests.

This national park lies within the water catchment areas of the Comet and Nogoa rivers in Central Queensland, Australia, around 626 km northwest of Brisbane.

The Minerva Hills National Park sits on the Oligocene Minerva Hills Volcanics. These volcanics were formed around 33-34 million years ago during the Cosgrove Hot Spot volcanic activity. It consists of a basal series of mafic lavas with a thickness of about 70m. The series is overlain by a succession of mafic and felsic volcanics, including trachyte, rhyolite, and trachytic pyroclastics, related to plugs and domes. The upper sequence was formed around 28.5-27.5 million years ago.

The Minerva Hills National Park is home to four stunning lookouts that offer awe-inspiring views of the striking scenery. These lookouts also overlook the charming town of Springsure, providing visitors with a glimpse of the surrounding areas of Queensland.
