Description
The Mitchell River Walking Track Iguana Creek is a semi-remote trail in the East Gippsland region.
It follows the Mitchell River from Angusvale to the Den of Nargun gorge. The track is moderately difficult and suitable for those with reasonable fitness levels and sturdy walking shoes.
Along the trail, you can explore the lush landscape and diverse flora and fauna of the temperate rainforest. Birdwatchers can spot endangered powerful owls, lyrebirds, and kingfishers. The highlight of the trail is the Den of Nargun gorge, a geological wonder with remnants of temperate rainforest. Guided tours are available for those who want to explore the area.
It is advised to avoid visiting during the wet winter months when the trail can be slippery and hazardous.
To get to the Mitchell River Walking Track Iguana Creek, drive from Melbourne to Bairnsdale, which takes about 4 hours. Take the M1, Princes Highway, and Great Alpine Road to reach Bairnsdale. From there, follow the signs to Angusvale, where the trail begins.
