Moogerah Peaks National Park

Moogerah Peaks National Park is a natural haven for endemic flora and fauna.

Located in the Fassifern Valley of South East Queensland, Australia, this 676-hectare park is just 70 km from Brisbane. The park consists of four protected areas surrounding Moogerah Dam, with the famous peaks offering breathtaking views of scenic landscapes and cliffs.

The park is largely untouched and protected from human intervention due to its relative inaccessibility. It features predominantly open eucalypt forest with montane heath on exposed rock faces, as well as patches of lush rainforests in sheltered areas. Moogerah Peaks is part of the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area, recognized for its conservation of threatened bird species.

The Moogerah Peaks themselves are a set of small mountains of volcanic origin. Each of their summits, Mount French, Mount Edwards, Mount Moon, and Mount Greville, is contained within separate sections of the park. These peaks provide opportunities for adventurous travelers to explore nature's beauty. Frog Buttress on Mount French is a popular rock climbing area, while Palm Gorge on Mount Greville features a stand of Piccabeen Palms. The park also borders Lake Moogerah, and visitors can access the Mount Edwards portion of the park across the dam wall and spillway.

The flora of the peaks is diverse, including rainforests, sclerophyll woodlands, and montane heath in rocky exposed areas. The park is home to several endemic flora species, such as the Moogerah Peaks Leionema and Mount Greville Reed Grass, which are found nowhere else on earth.
