Description
Embark on the Mount Kosciuszko Summit Walk in Kosciuszko National Park, a picturesque track that will take you through Australia's highest mountains, historic huts, and stunning natural features.
The 18.6 km round trip starts from Charlotte Pass and leads to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, offering scenic landscapes and photo opportunities along the way.
Around 4.5 km from Charlotte Pass, you'll find the Snowy River, a great spot for a picnic. Continuing on, you'll reach Seaman's Hut, built in 1929, before reaching Rawson Pass where bikes are left behind. The final leg is a 1.4 km walk to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, standing at an impressive 2228 meters.
The best time to undertake this walk is during the summer months when the weather is mild and the wildflowers are in full bloom. It's important to note that the park is closed during winter due to snow.
To get to the starting point at Charlotte Pass, you can drive around 12 km from Perisher Valley or take a shuttle bus from nearby towns. The trail is well-signposted, and maps are available at the starting point. If you plan to ride a bike, ensure it is sturdy as the track can be bumpy. It's also recommended to come prepared with good quality hiking shoes, water, and snacks as this walk is challenging.
