Description
Located within the Mount Field National Park in southern Tasmania, Mount Mawson is a popular skiing destination. It has an elevation of 1,318 metres (4,324 ft) above sea level, with a summit rising to 1,320 metres (4,330 ft) above sea level.
While slightly lower than the Ben Lomond ski-field, it still offers excellent skiing opportunities.
By car, Mount Mawson is situated 89 kilometres (55 mi) northwest of Hobart and 232 kilometres (144 mi) from Launceston, making it an easy day trip destination. A 20-minute walk from the car park will take skiers to the four ski tows - two intermediate rope tows and a third steep incline rope tow that accesses steep terrain.
Ski enthusiasts of all levels can enjoy skiing at Mount Mawson. Established in 1958, it is now run by the Southern Tasmanian Ski Association. The ski field sits at around 1,250 metres (4,100 ft) above sea level and offers three lifts.
A small amount of club accommodation is available for skiers. For those who want to experience the national park's natural beauty, self-catering huts are available in the park.
