Description
Mount Noorat is a dormant volcano located in Victoria, Australia.
It is part of the Newer Volcanics Province and is estimated to have erupted between 5,000 and 20,000 years ago. The volcano stands at a peak height of 310 metres and features a complex topography with multiple vents. One of its main highlights is the deepest scoria enclosed crater found in Victoria. The geological formation of Mount Noorat is significant as it illustrates a transition from maar eruption to scoria cone development. The volcano also holds cultural and historical significance as a traditional meeting and trading place for Indigenous peoples. The scoria from Mount Noorat was even used in the construction of early roads in the area newline.
