The park occupies an area of 7,600 hectares and is located approximately 20 km north of Mansfield in the scenic state of Victoria, Australia. Mount Samaria Walking Track is situated in Mount Samaria State Park, which is bounded on the western side by the Broken River and Lake Nillahcootie. The walking track is designed for visitors to experience the beautiful natural scenery, pristine streams and fresh air. The 11-kilometre long route is moderately challenging, and has a signage system directing hikers to take one of two routes- either the hill climb across the saddle or the gentler walk around the base.
Nature lovers will enjoy the scenic views, plant life and wildlife that populate the park. The forest runs along the line of the Great Dividing Range and features Alpine Ash, forest and cool-temperate rainforest. The park is home to a variety of animals including eastern grey kangaroos, wombats, echidnas and wallabies. Look out for the playful wombats during your visit to the park.
The walking track is open all year round, and there are no fees or permits required to use the track. Mount Samaria State Park is approximately two and half hours drive from Melbourne.
