Bartle Frere is a popular tourist spot located in Wooroonooran National Park, Queensland, Australia. With a maximum elevation of 1622 meters, it's the highest mountain in Queensland.
The mountain range offers many unique features such as dense tropical rainforest, rich flora and fauna, and stunning vistas of the Atherton Tablelands and the coast. The mountain range is also part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
The mountain range offers an exciting experience for tourists who like to indulge in outdoor activities. Visitors can hike to the peak of the mountain by choosing one of two trailheads. The eastern trailhead begins from Josephine Falls, located 75 kilometers south of Cairns, while the western trailhead is situated on the Atherton Tablelands, 78 kilometers south-south-west of Cairns.
The hiking trails on the mountain are reserved for experienced bushwalkers with a high level of fitness. Although parts of the walk can be completed in a single day, it is recommended to camp overnight at one of the campsites along the way. The campsites need to be booked in advance through Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services for only AUD6.65 per person, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience.
