Description
The Mt Everard Circuit Walk is a challenging loop covering approximately 22 kilometres in length.
It is located in Kinglake National Park, just 50 kilometres from Melbourne. This national park is home to almost 600 native plant species, over 40 native mammal species, and 90 native bird species.
The Mt Everard Circuit Walk is a great experience for hikers as it scales three of Kinglake’s highest forested peaks, Mt Beggary, Mt Everard, and Mt Jerusalem. Throughout the entirety of the route, hikers will encounter a mix of scrubby bush, gum trees, and ferns along its length. The trails are well marked, and the circuit can be started from several locations, but it is recommended to start from Jehosaphat Gully Picnic Area. Hikers can expect to follow Shelley Harris Track through lush bushland, cross several small streams in the wetter months, and connect to the Mt Jerusalem Track for a short way to the Cookson Hill Track.
The best time to complete the Mt Everard Circuit Walk is during the cooler months of the year, from April to October. During these months, the weather is mild, and the trails are less busy.
To get to Kinglake National Park, take the Hume Freeway from Melbourne and then the Whittlesea-Kinglake Road or Melba Highway. There is car parking available at Jehosaphat Gully Picnic Area.
