Description

Murray Falls, located within the Girramay National Park, is a must-see attraction in north Queensland.

This picturesque waterfall is one of the prettiest in the region, with large volumes of water cascading over naturally sculpted granite boulders. The falls site is situated in the foothills of the Kirrama Range, where rainforested mountains and tropical lowlands meet, creating a beautiful landscape.

Visitors to Murray Falls can enjoy a picnic in the grassy and shaded day-use area or take a stroll along the boardwalk to a viewing platform near the falls. The more adventurous can embark on a 1.8-kilometre rainforest walk, which offers views over the falls and Murray Valley. Native wildlife, such as wallabies, possums, and reptiles, can be spotted along the walk, and birdwatchers can use binoculars to spot the many colorful birds.

Spring is the best season to visit if you want to see colorful wildflower displays. The park comes to life with a kaleidoscope of colors during this time. It's important to note that access to the river upstream of the day-use area is not permitted due to slippery rocks and fast-flowing water, which have caused serious injuries in the past. River access is allowed within the day-use area, but caution is advised.

To get to Murray Falls, it is about 40 kilometers from Cardwell and approximately 150 kilometers south of Cairns. Access to the falls is via a well-maintained unsealed road that is suitable for conventional vehicles.
