Description
Nigretta Falls, also known as Upper Wannon Falls, is a picturesque waterfall located in the Southern Grampians Shire, Victoria, Australia.
It is approximately 16 kilometres or 9.9 miles away from the town of Hamilton, making it an accessible natural attraction for tourists and locals alike. Unlike its downstream counterpart, the Wannon Falls, Nigretta Falls features a multi-channel, segmented cascade of smaller drops and bounces that create a breathtaking, picturesque flow. The rocks surrounding the waterfall boast of unique and complex patterns of joints in a much older Rhyolitic volcanic rock, making Nigretta Falls a geologically significant attraction as well. The Nigretta Scenic Reserve surrounds the waterfall and comprises parts of the Wannon River Valley. It showcases some of the native plants of the Dundas Tablelands, which have been listed in a reference. Visitors can enjoy the lush greenery, flora, and fauna that surround the waterfall and the reserve. The falls tumble over many rocky outcrops, creating several streams of falling water that fall into a large pool at its base. This pool attracts visitors who want to take a refreshing dip. Nigretta Falls is an unforgettable natural wonder that visitors to Victoria, Australia, should not miss.
