Description
Nine Mile Beach, also known as Tuncurry Beach, is located adjacent to the Tuncurry township.
It is a large stretch of sand that offers various activities such as swimming, surfing, fishing, and long beach walks.
Surfers are drawn to Nine Mile Beach, particularly the northern end where there are excellent surf breaks. At the southern end of the beach, you'll find Tuncurry Rockpool, a sheltered swimming area that is perfect for children and beginners.
For families, there are picnic areas, barbecue facilities, a children's play area, and a kiosk where you can purchase food, drinks, and beach accessories.
In addition, Nine Mile Beach is dog-friendly.
It's important to note that Nine Mile Beach is not patrolled by lifeguards, so swimmers should pay attention to safety warnings. Parents should also supervise their children at all times.
The beach can be visited year-round, with the busiest period being during summer from December to February. The best time for surfing is early in the morning before the onshore winds pick up and the beach becomes crowded.
Getting to Nine Mile Beach is easy by car. If you're coming from Sydney, you can take the M1 Pacific Motorway north and then take the Tuncurry exit. Once in Tuncurry, follow the signs to Nine Mile Beach. There is ample parking available at the beach.
