Description
Nursery Bommie is a popular dive site located on the Agincourt Reefs near Port Douglas.
It is known for its stunning coral formations, diverse marine life, and impressive pinnacle. The coral pinnacle rises from a depth of 25 to 30 meters and is adorned with sea whips, soft corals, and gorgonians, providing a beautiful backdrop for underwater photography. The bommie is home to various fish species, including blue-striped snappers, barracuda, trevally, surgeonfish, and fusiliers. Exploring the ledges carved into the bommie offers the chance to spot rock cod, lionfish, coral cod, nudibranchs, and leaf scorpionfish. At the top of the pinnacle, divers can witness hundreds of fairy basslets and a large school of snubnose drummer, making it a haven for underwater photographers.
Nursery Bommie is open for diving year-round, but the water temperature and visibility vary depending on the season. For the best experience, it is recommended to visit between August and January when the water is warmer and visibility is clearer.
To reach Nursery Bommie, visitors can book a day trip with local tour operators that offer dive trips to the Agincourt Reefs. These tours depart from Port Douglas and Cairns and include equipment rental and a knowledgeable dive guide.
