Description
O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park is a protected area located in the southern suburbs of Seaview Downs and O'Halloran Hill, just 16 kilometres (9.9 miles) south of the Adelaide city centre.
Established in 1989, the park was created by the Government of South Australia for recreation and nature conservation purposes.
The park has a rich history and was established for three main reasons. Firstly, it serves as an open space buffer. Secondly, it provides visual amenity and recreational opportunities for the growing southern suburbs. Lastly, it helps create a second ring of parklands around Adelaide, protecting the Hills Face Zone from development. Currently, the park is in the process of becoming part of the new Glenthorne National Park-Itiyamaiitpinna Yarta, which opened to the public in November 2020.
As a Category III protected area, O'Halloran Hill Recreation Park offers visitors stunning scenery and a diverse range of flora and fauna. It is a perfect destination for hiking, picnicking, and bird watching. With a variety of trails available, ranging from easy to moderate difficulty, the park caters to visitors of all fitness levels. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the picturesque views of nature!
