Description
The Otaki-Maori Racing Club is a historic horse racing club located in Otaki, New Zealand. Established in 1886, it is now the only Maori racing club in the country and possibly one of the few truly indigenous horse racing clubs in the world. The club has enjoyed a long, colourful, and successful history and offers a unique experience for visitors. The club is located 70 kilometres (40 miles) north of Wellington, New Zealand.
Visitors can check out the club's calendar for upcoming race days.
The club has undergone an extensive track repair project and is now back in action after a couple of years of wet weather and ongoing drainage issues that resulted in surface flooding and numerous transfers or cancellations of meetings. The club offers lounges and up-to-the-minute information relating to racing events. From 2007 to 2017, the club was managed by a third party. In mid-2017, the committee decided to move this back in-house, and the club is now back in control of its destiny as a club and has initiated a number of non-raceday projects to ensure a long and bright future.
The Otaki-Maori Racing Club is a family racecourse, and visitors can enjoy a unique experience that is different from other racing clubs. The club welcomes enquiries about its race meetings, projects, functions/events, sponsorship, or other general matters. In summary, the Otaki-Maori Racing Club is a historic horse racing club located in Otaki, New Zealand. It is the only Maori racing club in the country and offers a unique experience for visitors.
