The upgrade has secured over $400 million in funding, with 80% from the Federal Government and 20% from the Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Queensland Governments. The project includes sealing the Great Central Road, Gunbarrel Highway, Lasseter Highway, Stuart Highway, Plenty Highway, Donohue Highway, and Kennedy Development Road. It has gained strong support from local government areas along the route and travelers.
