Peggy's Point Bicheno - East Coast Whale Trail

On the East Coast of Tasmania, there is a whale watching experience that spreads out over 14 coastal stops.

One of those coastal stops is Peggy's Point Beach in Bicheno. As a part of the East Coast Whale Trail, Peggy's Point Beach is known for the amazing views it offers to search for signs of whales. The site is free to visit, and the signboards offer all sorts of information and stories about these magnificent creatures. Binoculars have also been installed at two of the Trail sites to get a closer view of the whales.

Peggy's Point Beach, in particular, offers unobstructed sea views making it the perfect location to spot whales. Whales can come within a few hundred meters of the shore, and sometimes they throw their fins, flukes, and bodies high out of the water, creating large explosions of foam on the surface that can be seen from far away. Visitors can take advantage of the signboards to learn about the different types of whales that can be spotted along the trail. Additionally, the site is great for picnics, bird watching, and admiring the natural beauty of the East Coast of Tasmania. During this period, humpback and southern right whales are in abundance. From June to November, there are also sightings of rare blue and killer whales. It's important to note that whales are wild animals; thus, sightings are not guaranteed.

The East Coast Whale Trail is scattered all along the coast from The Gardens in the larapuna/Bay of Fires area near St Helens in the north to Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula.
