Description
Pender Bay is a National Heritage listed coastal wilderness on the Dampier Peninsula, located north of Broome.
It is a secluded location that can only be accessed by 4-wheel drive and takes about 4.5 hours to reach. Visitors can explore Beagle Bay's Sacred Heart Church or join an Aboriginal tour to learn about one of the oldest surviving cultures on Earth.
Pender Bay offers a range of activities for visitors. In August, it is home to one of the world's largest populations of humpback whales, which use the bay as a nursery and resting ground before migrating south to the Antarctic. Guests can observe these majestic creatures from various lookouts around the bay. At low tide, an afternoon reef walk reveals smaller marine life such as octopuses, crabs, and sea urchins. A morning beach walk provides opportunities to spot a variety of birdlife. The sunset offers a stunning light show as the sun illuminates the pindan cliffs.
Accommodation options at Pender Bay include self-contained eco tents, chalets, and unpowered camping sites. Guests can enjoy sleeping under a star-filled sky and immerse themselves in the beauty of the surrounding wilderness.
While Pender Bay is beautiful year-round, August is the best month to visit if you want to see humpback whales in their natural habitat. Access to this remote location is limited to 4-wheel drive vehicles, and the journey takes approximately 4.5 hours. Once there, visitors can relax and appreciate the natural beauty of this secluded coastal wilderness.
